Right now its got a delco HEI unit in it.. would like to go with an msd dist and box soon.. funds just arent there at the moment.

With that being the case. I would get rid of the vacuum advance and just stick with the mechanical advance. Once you get the MSD, then you can lock out the distributor. The delco unit can be locked out, but it's a pain in the A... You have to weld the weights. The MSD unit is easy to lock out.

Order one of these and you shouldn't have to worry about the vacuum modulator any longer.

In the mean time I would just set your total advance and be done with it. Most SBC like between 36 and 40 degrees of total advance.

ok! so you suggest ordering that part for my current dist? And someone owes me alot of credit... a shop.. im sure hes got a 6AL box layin around.. would that help with my setup yah think?

I've got a brand new, never run, Mallory 6048201 distributor. I don't have the instructions for it anymore but if you're interested pm me.
