What year model?

Maybe it's a bad starter solenoid? If you can find the solenoid, go give it a good 'tap' with a wrench and see if it'll start.. On the Fords I've had, the solenoid was usually over on the passenger side fender well..

All I can tell you for sure is it is a Ford Taurus, and I'm guessing an '04. I could go locate the solenoid and try this, but then she'd wind up going to Cleveland with it. If it broke down up there, who do you think would have to go get her?

Well, if that's what it is, you can probably get one at the local AutoZone and replace it before she leaves...?

Try putting it in "N" and see if it starts.

It could be the "PRND21" switch...

Also it DOES have a transponder key that has to be programmed to the car.
If she has bought another key and DID NOT have it programmed to the car, it will do as you described.
Don't ask how I know that.
I bought a 2002 Taurus new and had it till a couple of years ago.
I sold it to my next door neighbor a couple of years ago.

Well, she didn't make the payment, and went to FLA with my wife, and car payment money. When the fwonk will kids ever learn responsibility?

I reckon that could be possible with a LOJACK like system... I don't know for sure.

If OnStar can reduce power to the engine and bring a car to a stop... while flashing the lights, honking the horn and locking and unlocking the doors... I don't see why they couldn't disable it remotely.

But I don't know that ... FOR SURE.

I bet Scottyboy would know about that.
He really knows alarm systems.

There are some car rental companies that have a hidden GPS in the car, and if you go over 10mph "OVER" the speed limit, it reports back to headquarters and when you get back........ you are charged 200 bucks for every time you were speeding.
They call it abuse of the car, and it is in the fine print, in the rental contract, that they can charge you like that.

A lot of stuff is actually "POSSIBLE"... if you want to go to the trouble of just "DOING IT."

I can understand that.......for sure.
Let the girl deal with the dealer when she gets back from FLA.

Maybe it will teach her a small lesson about paying bills on time.

She is the oldest, and the smartest, until it comes time to paying bills.

I don't know her...of course... but this might just be a "TEACHABLE MOMENT" when she gets back from Florida.


If she was more careful about paying bills on time... she would have a better credit rating.
By having a better credit rating, she cold buy a car from a "REAL CAR DEALER" ... not from "Bubba's Tote The Note."

In addition to not going thru this kind of a hassle, she would get a much better interest rate on the financing...

Therefore the payment per month would be a lot cheaper.
The total cost of the car... including financing... wouldn't cost near as much.
And she would have a lot more of "HER OWN MONEY" left over to spend on other things.

Like having money to go to Florida without having to use the car payment money.

Not trying to butt into your business.... just thinking out loud....
