Hummmmm

4L80 married to a NP 203 ...

Thought this would be easy to do ....
The more I ponder on it, the more involved it's becoming ...

Here's the latest ...

Decided not to use the mounting plate off of the 400 ..

Going with a 4x4 4L80 mounting plate ... Net more spline contact will result ...

Soon to find out if my thoughts holds water ?

Whoa, forgot about the dipstick .. !

The 4L80 was powered by an LS motor, dipstick bolted to the head not the bell housing ..

Was going to fab up a mount and weld it to the stick.
Forgot to do that and went ahead with powder coating the thingy ..

Do see where aftermarket has the cure for this problem ...
(Maybe ?)

That looks like it'll work ..

According to tracking some parts will be here today ...

Ordered a few parts for the motor, going to re-ring it soon.
In the mode of getting a few parts together so when the time comes they will be close at hand and won't be waiting for em .

On the motor is a 7 qt stock car, bat wing, Moroso oil pan ...
It won't allow for the motor to trans stuts ...

The Moroso pan will be sold ...
I won't have any need for it any longer .. It has served me well for the years it been in use ..

No dents, some paint and it's back to new again ..

Making progress ...

Doing the 4L80 trans swap has turned into a PITA !

Wasn't that long ago I rebuilt the NP 203 transfer case .
Installed bearings, chain, gaskets and seals. Also converted it to part time with a Mile Marker SS output shaft ..

Wanted to use it behind the 4L80, had thoughts of swapping it out to a 205 gear to gear transfer, but after thinking about it decided to keep on line what I already have ..

It hasn't seen much use in the 4 wheel drive mode at all.

431883519_10229167720796216_8223592772870571218_n (1).jpg

Had to find a Oem 4L80 4x4 mount in order to use a special, custom made adapter ..

The gap is where the custom adapter goes ...
( Once it gets here tomorrow )

Liking this way of doing the trans swap cause of having 100% spline contact on the trans 4x4 output shaft ..

The 4L80 4x4 trans/transfer mount is not as tall as the TH 400 mount ... Bout 4.6 inches shorter ...

Not sure what I'm going to do about this just yet ..
Most likely modify the crossmember to fit .. ??

Tracking says the custom adapter plate will be here tomorrow. .. Will be able to see what the needs will be once the trans/transfer gets bolted in ..

You definitely have your hands full with this build. I have to say you have more patience and skills than I do.

Sure is a major chore doing the overdrive trans ..
Not only will I have to contend with the mount but also make a mount to move the shifter forward a few inches ..

432608004_10229172237669135_6238211777854641214_n (1).jpg

I'm going to shoot for locating it between the bucket seats and within easy reach ..
Not sure how far forward it will be moved ..
Hope to have the trans/transfer in the truck later on in the day ?
A good guess would be between 5 and 7 inches and center of the floor .. That offset is around 2 to 3 inches ..?

Do want to keep the GM one stick on line .. Have gave some thought of going twin sticks, but the GM shifter works great and hasn't been a problem ..
