I know I kind of asked this already about the V4 mode but my next question is something different I hope.

Recently driving on the city streets I've noticed it changing from V8 to V4 mode when I am driving 30 to 25 mph. It never did that until recently. It would only change to V4 mode when I was driving 75 or 80mph.

Is there a speed limit for when this changes? Should I get my truck looked at on the safe side?

I want it to be in great condition for driving to Yosemite next month.

Thanks

It all depends on driving style. If you are light on the throttle then the ECM will see it doen't need the extra power and switch to V4 mode. The reason it is doing it now is that it took a while for the vehicle to learn your driving habits. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks. It is just somewhat annoying when I am on the freeway with a lot of traffic and I am driving at 25-30 mph. Then the traffic starts to clear up and I can't get the truck moving quick enough.

Ii believe it's more dependent on throttle position than speed. Light load, you get 4cyl. Pretty sure putting it into tow/haul mode will keep it running on all 8. I've done it quite a bit in rush hour traffic. If you "need" to shoot for a gap it's nice to have the whole engine working, also firms up the transmission I think.

Tow/haul used to let mine kick in... Should be all throttle position/engine load based for the switch.

For most people, there isn't really a difference in mileage when you disable it.

If it's changing more than you want to, just drive with a heavier foot! :D2
