So......I have decided to put a brand new crate engine in the 97 f150...while its in the shop I'm going to have the rear axle flipped to lower it and center the weight more towards 50/50...have a new clutch put in, and headors along with an MSD ignition system....new shocks front and rear to stiffen the chassis, and I'm also looking for a set of 18" rims and tires to fill the gaps in the wells and give it better handling.....any suggestions for performance? trying to keep it around $3000...

My suggestion: Take that engine money, and your other $3K and go buy a much newer and more reliable truck.

If you're going to go down this road, don't ever bother with shorty headers. They don't provide any real value over the stock manifolds.

This will keep nickel and dime-ing you to death.
Trust me, I know. I tried it 25 years ago with a 1983 Buick Regal. Finally cut my losses and dumped it.

the thing is...I already did new brakes all around...all the eletrics are good, the body is rock solid, interior is good,steering and suspension other than shocks is all great, and the tranny...and....it handles like a dream, everything is tight and sharp and responsive....to put it shortly...I love the little truck, oh and I just had a new exhaust ran right before the motor went....and I still owe on it, so instead of going even deeper in debt I figure new motor and a few mods and its paid off and basically a new truck
