No, it wouldn't engage or energize until the ignition switch energized it, but it does have direct power to it.

There is a fusible link on that alternator wire. In the underhood box there is a 50 today amp labeled bat.

The BAT fuse is what supplies half the instrument panel fuse box.

How's your grounds? Especially the ground on the right rear of the block, near the starter, going from the frame to the block?

Also, I just want to confirm that you don't have anything "aftermarket" (radio, lights, horns, etc.) hooked up, the underhood light is unplugged, and the ignition is "off", right?

I have an aftermarket remote start system, and an after market stereo. Both were installed by me and are fused.

I'll double check that ground by the starter but I think it was good when I checked it last.

For shit I just went out and checked that ground and totally un plugged the remote start. No change.

Dome light fuse is un plugged so the door can stay open. Reading dropped to 4.5 amp

Is the meter ranged correctly?

Your claim was this was not a battery killer. Is this .45 amp?

Ranging on meter is set to auto. And only the A for amps is displayed.
