I don't know how heavy your boat is but Earl pulls trailers with bobcats just fine with 3.42 gearing.

Dry weight of boat is 5100 lbs. so I figure with gas, water, oil, gear and a tandem axle trailer I am right around 7500 lbs.

It's a heavy bitch. My truck works to tow it with 3.73 gears.

Awesome, thanks.

Not going to worry about the 3.42's as it will tow fine the little amount I do.

It does have an aux trans cooler, so that is good.

I just heard from him, his buddy is still undecided, but he said he is not going to wait for him any more. He is working on fixing the non-functioning heated seats as we speak.

It's looking like this is going to happen. :wookie:

You will be over the tow rating by a few hundred pounds with no one or anything else in the truck though...

As long as he doesn't try to tow for thousands of miles that way, and has a good brake controller, it'll be fine.

It actually does have an aftermarket brake controller on it. The PO put one on recently as he just purchased a 4-place enclosed snowmobile trailer. Then decided to buy a new truck.

To be honest, I am not even sure how these brake controllers work? Do they work with hydraulic surge brakes or do you need electric brakes on the trailer? My boat only has hyd surge brakes, which seem to work very well.

The brake controller I have works with electric brakes. You can adjust how much braking pressure is applied to the trailer wheels. You can even manually apply the brakes on the trailer without using your vehicles brakes.

Hydraulic surge work as stated. The pressure at the tongue when you apply vehicle brakes, pushes on a hydraulic plunger to apply trailer brakes. So the harder you stop the harder the trailer brakes are applied.
