Happy Cyber Monday everyone!
I wanted to update this thread and let you know what we finally ended up finding the true cause of the issue. In short, WE STILL DON'T KNOW! Yep, that's right, we plugged the U42 wire back in to the circuit last weekend (after it's been unplugged since April) and the truck started up fine, and both the RSE/RSA worked perfectly. The bunch of wires do run along the a-pillar, where I possibly have a leaky/clogged sunroof drain tube (I noticed a puddle of water a few times on my floor mats this summer) so this wire probably shorted out somewhere. Rather than mess with it, we ran a new wire all the way from the connector up to the RSE where this was plugged in.
Truck is running great, no starting issues, DVD player is working so the daughter is happy once again! (she finally WANTS to ride in my truck now that her "movie player" is working again)
