Sometimes you just need to stop throwing good money after bad. The one good thing my Chevy did was bring me here :D

40K miles and 8 years on my '05. Lived with the clunking steering column. Fixed the HVAC resistor twice. Replaced a couple hubs. Wondered how much longer my rusty brake lines would last. Waited for the stepper motors to fail. Eventually, the pile of potential problems made it not worth keeping anymore. I do miss the few extra MPGs the Chevy would get over my Ram, and the rear locker made it better in snow. The wife misses the dual climate controls :)

The new Rams with the 8 speed get better FE than the GMs do.

We won't talk about the FE my truck gets.

My "new" Ram is a 2008, despite having cylinder deactivation and trying to drive with a light foot, I average around 13mpg, of mid-grade. The Chevy was an '05 w/5.3 and got closer to 16 on regular.

So you're saying I should upgrade :D

Maybe once the kid is out of college I'll have money again and I can buy nice things.:rollin:

These are trucks people, FE isn't part of the equation. You want FE buy a moped! :jester:

OK, but will a moped tow my boat? Yeah, I didn't think so.

FE is a huge selling point.

Hence why Ram is gaining market share while GM is losing it.

Once again, GM is following instead of leading. They are just now coming out with their 8 spd while Ram and Ford are about to come out with their 10 spds.

GM will always be a follower. At least that is how I see them and have been that way for a long time. Seems they have no desire to be better, if they did, their quality would increase, instead, it seems to just linger on the point of just getting by.

Look at all the Cadillac, they all look the same, as in the CTS and ATS. What's the point?

You would think that how long there have been GM forums on the internet now that they would start to listen to what is being discussed.

GM just needs to clean shop with all the big wigs and get some new fresh blood in there. To much greed and the sad thing is it will probably never change.

That might be reaching a little, Chrysler is ahead of the mainstream, non-lux game and they just switched to the 8 speeds in longitudinal applications and 9 speeds in the transverse applications, both of which are off the shelf units bought or built under license from ZF. Also, I find it hard to believe Ford will beat GM to 9 or 10 speed autos since they're working co-developing them. Though I guess from recent history GM had a nice longitudinal 6 speed transmission and took them what seemed like forever to get it spread through the line-up.

It won't be long and Ram will be outselling GM in the light truck market.
