Jeff, pm me your contact info. I'd love to help you sell your truck. I'd rather see you in a f150 or ram and I am sure that a good majority of members would love to see you in that new truck to save us from your whining...

All the different makes out there have their lemons. Sucks that you got one from GM. Hit any of the other forums for Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Dodge and Honda, not that Honda has a truck. and you will find threads just like yours. It is bound to happen when there are millions of a product mass produced.

I'm fortunate with my 02. No issues other than the fuel pump. I'm still rocking the original front brake pads at 150k. I just hope that since I opened my mouth that it will not start having issues. :fingersx:

TMC has a mix of makes and models but seems GM and Ford are the main players. If you trade, I'm sure we all will be more than happy to help you spend more money on it for mods, even if you don't want too. :) I feel a wheel thread in your future. :jester:

I do agree with your first paragraph completely.

However, many of the issues I have had are quite common in the GMT900's:
Oil consumption (due to AFM mostly)
Oil leaks (rear mains, CPS manifold and oil cooler lines)
Ball joints
Brake rotors
...just to name a few.

Even the mechanic that worked on my truck yesterday said he sees the issues I had in this gen of GM trucks all the time. GM dealer mechanics also told me this over the years.

Also, having owned a GMT400, GMT800 and now a GMT900, I have seen not only the issues increase, but overall build quality decline in each successive generation. Not just build quality, but decontenting as well. yet prices do not reflect this cost cutting.

Let's face it, GM fan or not, GM as a company is not very strong and it is (and has been for some time now) being reflected in their quality. Hell, even the CEO has basically admitted that. "No more crappy cars" I believe are the words she used. Then the onslaught of recalls came next.

I truly hope GM can fix their company and become strong again with good products. But until I see that happening long term. I am done with their products.

And I also agree with Tobias...Brian, you are obviously butthurt that I am slamming GM because you are a GM fanboy by your own admission. So if you do not like to read what I have to say, simply do not open my threads or read my posts. Pretty simple really.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
Good luck with your purchase.

My GMT-900 has been fantastic, except the ridiculous rusting on the rear wheel wells. Each and every plug weld is starting to rust through. Makes me mad, because mechanically the truck is solid.

I have had just the opposite luck (AFM aside) with the 900s. I have bought 2 for me, several for work at my location, plus 20+ for business that I have witnessed by the company which i work for. My 6.0 did have a leaking crank sensor very early on, and it was fixed quickly. Condemn them for it? Nah.

Do I know if my 900 will be as great as my 800s? Not yet. The AFM thing has been a deciding factor in my not buying the wife a new Tahoe. Years later, however, I know of many AFM equipped vehicles that are doing just fine. Some got the new lifters, some didn't. 3 company half tons are well over 150K. Still, I would prefer not to have it in mine.

As for the 900 of mine as a whole, I have been extremely lucky, I guess :D

I will continue to buy GM product, and replace a PS line if it weeps. None of mine do, but these are tiny issues in my world. I recognize everyone is different, and has a different set of expectations.

All vehicles will have issues, I guess you need to choose what is acceptable. The other 2 makes have far more issues that I find unacceptable, and I get to see these things when approving the repair bills. My sample size is much larger, and I have a crew that likely abuses things more than the average homeowner would.

Jeff, I wish you the best of luck with the direction you go

Well, just to be clear, I have not made a decision on what I am going to do short-term.

Even with the issues my truck is having, it's still cheaper to keep fixing than buying new.

My truck has been paid for for 5 years, my wife's Honda is the only payment I have and I have 2 years left on it if I do not pay it off early (which I could do).

The financially wise thing to do would be to keep this truck a few more years, which I likely will do. I honestly don't care if I "like" my truck or not at this point. It's truck and it serves a purpose. I have other toys to like.

I have a daughter I am helping through college and another in dance, which is just as expensive as far as my pocketbook goes.

So, I will likely just keep fixing this POS and keep bitching about it (sorry Brian  )
