Don't let the Subie dealer know you traded it. See how long it takes him to contact you, then tell him to pound sand.

That is exactly my plan!

Them : "We got the parts!"

Me : "Finally!"

Them : "So, when would you like to schedule bringing your car in?"

Me : "I wouldn't. There's no problem with my car. You might talk to the guys at Frank Kent across the freeway, though. They might want the work done to their Outback!"

What were the details about the shaky steering wheel of the Subie?

There's a 20 something page TSB detailing all the crap that was potentially "wrong" with the parts and/or how those parts were put together at the factory. I've been waiting over 5 weeks for them to get the parts. I had already been jacking with them for a week and a half to two weeks before that.

Pretty much at ANY speed, but it starts getting more noticeable above about 30-40 (and it's REAL noticeable at 80+ :uhoh:), the steering wheel has this oscillating vibration in it. It is a constant rocking back & forth in rhythm with how fast the wheels are rotating. It gets more or less intense. But, it's not an out of balance tire or a problem with the wheels. They put a stock set of tires and wheels on my car and it still did it.

The thing that concerned me about the "kit" they were going to apply to my car was that the TSB said it was to "minimize the shake." To me, that sounds like it would've never been completely gone and it was entirely possible it could come back. So, all the waiting around for what MIGHT not have been an actual fix became more than I felt like dealing with.

Hell, if they had just COMMUNICATED better (with me AND with Subaru Corporate), I might've kept waiting. They didn't. So, I'm not waiting anymore.

I'll try to remember to thank him when he calls!

I don't blame you for getting rid of it. Have your read about others that might have had this same issue? Did they ever get it resolved.

I did have a similar issue with the Aurora. I bought the car with these Bfgoodrich tires, the car would vibrate like crazy above 60 mph. I needed to get the car inspected and my brother found a new set of the same tire at work and threw them on the car. Thinking that since the virbating was still there that it had to be a balancing/alignment issue. There is a TSB on it as well but it recommended alignment and if it doesn't fix the problem that the solution would most likely be replacing the lower control arm.

Well, the weekend before last we bought a stealth that had nice tires on it and after market wheels. Threw them on the olds and no more vibration. :dunno:

Yep, most of the people complained a lot earlier than I did. They went through HELL initially, getting Subaru to do ANYTHING about it. There were multiple revisions of the TSB and the "process" became more defined. So, it became "easier" to get them dealt with.

But, for whatever reason, most dealers don't seem to want to deal with the repairs.. They try to write it off as "a driving characteristic of the vehicle" or some other non-sense. (I dealt with that at around 12k miles on mine.) It wasn't until about 8k miles or so ago that mine seemed to get quite a bit WORSE. So, I started making noise. Eventually, Subaru agreed to goodwill the parts & labor. All the dealer had to do was order the parts and do the work.

Then, all the waiting began. :dunno:

I hope it stays vibration free for you!

Yeah, I'll just enjoy it in different ways!

This thing sits lower and corners a lot better than the Outback did.
