My engine started burning oil and the intake gasket is blown... I was think about selling the truck instead of rebuilding the 4.3 untill my cousin totaled his 2000 1500 with the 5.3. I'm thinking about taking my engine and transmission out and sticking his in. I have a week to do my research before I buy it off of him and do the swamp.. What do I need to think about and keep in mind... His truck was an extended cab with the third door. Mine is a single cab. Both are short bed.

You will need the wiring harness and ECM for everything to work properly. I think your current drive shaft will work.

I even think your exhaust will bolt to the 5.3s manifolds. It's pretty much a straight forward swap.

If I had the funds I'd put slap some aftermarket heads on it and a heafty cam while I have it out... Looks like I'm just gonna have the money for a stock swap..

Already have a problem with the initial plan.. I have an engine stand and engine hoist but the hoist I have is only rated for the engine and not the engine and transmission so I either have to find a hoist that can handle it or separate them.

You don't have some "Cajun Engineering" way around that problem?? :jester:
