I'm getting ready to replace the spark plugs on my 01 Chevy 5.3 engine.
I have already ordered the AC Delco 41-110 Iridium plugs from Rockauto.
I thought it was odd that they were not listed as a replacement for my truck. I had to manually enter the part number in order to purchase them.
But I have read all over the interwebs that this is the correct factory replacement plug for my engine. But now I am finding mixed info, some sites saying that this is NOT the reccomended plug for this engine now. So what do you guys think?
Should I use them or go with another plug? :dunno:

I'd rock those. Plenty of guys stating they have put them in their truck engines with no problems.

Are they the same as what you are pulling out? MS3DALE said that 41-962 is what is listed for your vehicle and is a platinum plug. He pulled both off the shelf and said that they looked identical. He would run them. Price is the same.

I just went a different route and rocked the NGK TR5's in my 02 5.3. No problems at all.

+1

No need to spend $$ for Iridium for that model with mileage. Iridiums are designed for long interval. Doubt you're going to put 100k more miles on this rig. Plats wil run long enough for you. Plenty of guys run copper plugs with no problems

I could care less about longevity. I just want my truck to run the same or better.
If these plugs will do that. Then I'll run em.
I am just confuse as to why they stated that these engine need iridium plugs, and now they say to use platinum plugs instead. :dunno:
I replaced the plugs shortly after I bought the truck in 2006. I am not 100% positive, but I could have sworn I put AC Delco iridiums in there back then because that's what the suggested replacement was. Hence why I ordered another set of Delco iridium plugs.

I have never heard anything about the 5.3 being very "particular" about plugs as long as you are running something decent. I know the Dodge/Ram, especially the Hemi, is very susceptible to issues if you run a plug with the wrong heat range...lots of people will only run the Mopar plugs for that reason. I haven't ever heard of something like that with the GM 5.3.

The other thing I can think of is that platinum plugs came out to achieve longer change intervals since the lasted longer with less ware. Then iridium came into play because it accomplished the same thing but it is my understanding it was just a little bit better in conductivity.

This is just my take on the difference and I think you will be fine running what you purchased. Since the ones you have are listed for newer model 5.3's that would be a good indication that they are a better plug. Technology over time improves and they are just an improvement over the platinum's in terms of lasting longer with better conductivity.

I probably need to check my NGK's, they have been in the truck now for 50k miles. More than likely they need to be changed. Since I have been keeping better track of my economy I might go to iridium's to see if they make a difference. I just need to wait until work slows down enough and maybe cooler weather. I hate sweating like crazy working on vehicles. We need a dry heat here in eastern NC.

I put those funky Bosch Platinum Plus 4s in the Tahoe like 5 years ago

Pretty happy with them, should probably yank them for a new set
