It's for sure overheating, not just going by the gauge?

Yeah, after I researched it last night, I had nightmares about all the troubles with land rovers. Best scary story ever.

I do have an infrared thermometer, and was thinking about checking that against the guage.

They have a terrible reputation of overheating and warping blocks, cracking blocks, nuking cylinder heads, etc. They are total money pits. I've seen literally hundreds of nice looking examples at auction with bad engines.

I won't even go into the electrical problems they have.
