not exactly a truck but my old lady has been looking at these and talking to the dealership i buy my trucks from and well i just dont know much about them besides they look pretty cool and are god damn expensive. the one shes looking at is just a few grand less than my trucks sticker price was at like $41xxx. I have found that dealers don't take much off if any. My salsman said he could sell it for $100 over invoice at $39k according to a wrangler forum that is invoice which seems weird to me. My trucks sticker was a little over $44k and he sold it to me for $37k

So anyways are these things any good? lol just looking for anyone who has one or use to have one. I dont know anyone that has ever owned one I dont want her making a very expensive mistake. I did notice they hold their value like nothing ive ever seen.

the one shes looking at is a wrangler unlimited sahara polar edition in white. leather, nav painted hard top/and soft top, a/c fully loaded

From what I've seen of Jeeps Wranglers, they can pretty much sell 'em for close to sticker. So, they don't inflate the prices a lot (over invoice, that is) like happens with some other makes & models. So, comparing the discount from a Chevy truck to a Jeep Wrangler probably isn't going to come out favorably. :dunno:

If you get her one, post pics!

I was going to get one but got the Camaro instead. I'm just not liking the fact that the Wrangler is underpowered, at least to me it is. Now if they put a Hemi in it then that thing would sell like crazy. The new improved V6 that is in it now from 2013 is a big improvement over the older one but still not that great.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. It would work well for you and your winters I would think, fuel economy isn't that great, again from what I have read on the JK forum.

Wranglers are not cheap, they don't deal very much and they're very good at what they're designed for. If she's just going to be driving around town or on the highway in it she'll probably get tired of it pretty quick. If she thinks that's what she wants I'd take a long test drive, maybe even rent one for a few days. I know lots of people (usually women) that get them because they're "cute and fun" but their overall harshness due to its off road bias causes the cute and fun-ness to go away.

Below is a pic of the '14 Unlimited Rubicon I ordered a few months ago for a weekend toy. Here is my 2 cents:

  • Price - They sell for sticker all day long. The best you can do is 3-5% under invoice. With some shopping, you can get that whether you buy off the lot or order. I custom ordered mine and got 3.5% under invoice. The hardest part was the 2 month wait. The factory is a capacity and has been for quite some time. They are back logged with orders. The good thing is that they hold their value better than any other mass produced vehicle out there right now.
  • Considerations - Decide what you will do with it. Even though it is for your wife, chances are good that you will play with it too and want to at least go to 35's (very common). Going to 35's and staying a mall crawler is fine but if you plan to wheel at all, I would highly recommend getting a Rubicon for the beefier front axle, transfer case, locking axles, electronic sway bar disconnect & 4.10 gears. You can only get 4.10 gears in the Rubicon. If you want anything else, definitely get the 3.73 gears. Most dealers order them in with the 3.21 and they are a dog even in stock form. Start adding heavier wheels, tires, lift, etc and you will find yourself spending more $$ to regear. On the other hand, a Rubicon is a waste of money if you don't think the Jeep will ever leave the pavement. Bottom line - Know what you plan to do with the Jeep and buy accordingly. Do you research and when you think you are done, do more.
  • Daily Driver - Hell no, I couldn't do it but a lot of people do. As much as I love the Jeep, it is a toy to me. I'll drive it for 3-4 days straight and find myself jumping into the truck or one of our other vehicles for a few days. My wife won't ride in it if we are driving more than just city driving. Road trips are out! Now when spring and summer hit, the doors and top will remain off all season and I'll definitely find myself driving it much more.
  • Fun - Hands down the most fun vehicle that I have had so far. Once I'm done building it up, I will probably have close to as much money in it as the X5 but I will love every minute of it. The temp was in the mid-60's here yesterday and I had the top down with the radio blaring heading out to the trails. My wife thinks I'm crazy and so does everyone else who doesn't own one or owned one in the past. "It's a Jeep thing" as they say.

I could go on and on about advice and what I have learned along the way. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. There are others that have experience with them on this board as well. I have found the Jeep forums to be some of the best around so do your research there as well.

Yes, the 3.8 was/is a dog but the 3.6 (2012 & newer) is pretty stout...the gearing is important. I'm curious as to what gears the one had that you test drove. With stock Rubicon gears (4.10), my Jeep is quicker than my heavy ass Sierra with the 5.3. The most common is 3.21. 3.73 are optional on all models. I agree with the Hemi but that would probably jump the price around $50k or more. :uhoh:

It's a Jeep. They are never going to win any speed races. :D

This has got to be the first time in your life you have parked a semi-dirty/muddy vehicle in your garage!

Love the color and the rig!

I'm surprised the floor isn't coated with a nice white floor paint.

Thanks for the help and advice guys I'm going sit her down and make her read this lol she wants one because she likes the looks and wants something 4wd because her honda accord isn't cutting it in the snow. I've heard of the rough ride these things have basically because of their off-road ability stock.

The best deal I could come up with is $100 over invoice at $39xxx which seems like a lot when I compare that to the price I paid for my truck but I need to stop doing that I guess.

She's been wanting to get one without even driving it I'm going to make sure she test drives it and I'll let you guys know how it goes..... My vote was for an AWD HEMI charger but she doesn't want a car lol I tried
