The only place I saw GM get their lunch eaten was in acceleration performance. Was everyone expecting miracles out of the 5.3? It's a decent performer but there's no way it would have been able to keep up with the Toyo and Ram 5.7s (and apparently the EcoBoost). That's what the 6.2 is for.

Also, you can't compare tow ratings from truck to truck, they have no meaning. Until they all test towards a common standard (SAE J2807) the tow rating is just a number that marketing makes up.

I'd still take one.

Jim hit the nail on the head earlier. Buyers will go back to their favorite brands regardless of what this comparison test (and the many sure to follow) indicate is the "best." Truck buyers are the most loyal consumers out of any other automotive segment. Hence, why Toyota has desperately been trying to get in the game.

Any truck in the list has capabilites that FAR exceed what the majority of half ton buyers will ever dream of putting their truck through (I did expect more out of the new generation of the 5.3 though). The 3/4 and 1 ton comparisons tend to hold a little more weight with me since those buyers actually use their trucks.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the article. Thanks for posting.

That's true Matt (bots), but I personally would expect a brand new platform to perform better against a couple which are into mid-cycle refreshes. When brand X's new model is still playing catch up to two older models, it doesn't exactly reek of excitement. But, that's why there are numerous brands and countless models, everyone can hopefully find what they like and want.

I agree 100%. I expected more out of the new platform as well.

It will be interesting to see what the upcoming comparison tests by others will show.

This.

I have lost pretty much all respect for most magazine comparisons. I research the crap out of vehicles prior to pulling the trigger. Not because I really care that much, but because I want to know everything I can about a vehicle before I buy it and it is a way I measure my salesman. If he can tell me something I don't know about it, or at least match my knowledge he can earn my respect.

When researching mid size SUVs for Lauren recently I read two different articles on diesel SUVs. They compared the MB ml350, jeep grand Cherokee, Cayenne, M5, and the Tourage. The jeep came in last in one and first in the other.

What I get from this article is, you can't go wrong with anyone of the big three. I pretty GM biased, but it would not take a lot to get me in a blue oval. From the article I'm pretty sure the gmc would have came in #1 if the 6.2 would have been available. The dodge and ford had their highest hp engine options.
