Ford SVT Raptor, or Dodge Ram Power Wagon?

The Raptor is cute......just like the ZR2 S10 was cute....but the capability of the Raptor is nothing special. It can drive over sand dunes fast. Whoop-dee. Some shiny shocks and fender flares do not make a good off-roader. I contend that ANY fullsize truck could handle what the Raptor does. I can't imagine that driving over sand dunes is all that hard. Hell, I've seen a STOCK 40+ year old Opel Kadett cross Africa.

And remember that the word is that the 6.2 in the F-150 will cost a whopping $3K over the anemic 5.4. GM charges $1K for their 6.2

And the Dodge looks 10000X better too.

I'm going to have to completely disagree with you on that one.

I've owned two Cummins diesels, back when they were good engines, ... a 24 valve in a '98 and also in an '02. It was not a good engine for offroad use due to weight, if you ask me, so not the best choice for a Power Wagon even if it were available as an option. Diesel emissions are also going through a tough time right now. The regulations on emissions have been cranked down by the EPA and the manufacturers have not figured out a good way to comply with the new regulations yet, kind of like gas emission control systems were in the 1970s. The 6.7 Cummins is plagued with problems, as are the other diesel engines. I suspect it will take a few more years for the manufacturers to get this all sorted out. Right now is not the time to be buying a diesel.

It is interesting to me that the opinions have been essentially 100% in favor of the Power Wagon, instead of the Raptor. I would have thought the Raptor would have been a more popular choice than it is. It is notable though, that the Raptor is the first Ford SVT vehicle that is in the red. This is partly because of the economy, but partly because of dealer greed. Ford priced the 5.4 powered Raptor very good, at $39K, but dealers are adding a $15K surcharge on their lots, and asking $54K for them. And they wonder why they are not selling

Thats a shame to hear those experiences about the Cummins I was thinking that they were almost as good as the Duramax.... A lot of people's opinions range that they are both equally good trucks even though I have always thought that the Chevy was the best of Diesels but I could be a little BIASED...

Now about the Raptor... I dont think that people's opinions are going to sway towards the Raptor cause they are still using the same old 5.4 motor... They really should try to so something with it kinda like when GM went from the 5.7 to the 5.3 as a similar motor...
Of course you can have it supercharged or possibly grab a different motor but who knows... I would vote for the Power Wagon over that any day!

Man, this is a surprise that the opinions are so far in favor of the Power Wagon. My friend the magazine editor has had two Power Wagon's as loaner vehicles, given to him by Dodge, but hasn't had the Raptor given to him yet. His opinion was that this was a no brainer, ... get the Power Wagon.

The Raptor is more than a truck with shiny shocks that can drive across sand dunes though. Try 100 mph across whoops that would send any other truck out of control so fast you wouldn't see what hit you. The Raptor is an impressive truck, but it has no cargo capacity, no towing capability to speak of, and buyers are being badly gouged by dealers right now.

Well the Titan boys think they can do everything the Raptor does and more!

MODIFIED Titan maybe. Stock, the Titan has horrible front wheel travel. Mine bottomed out driving normally on city streets. Damn powerful engines in those Titans though. I liked that.

Unless you put air levelling bags in the rear of the Raptor, it's not going to be much use for towing...

The suspension is going to be soft for being able to soak up those bumps...

But you'll never notice a pot hole!

Yeah I think thats why Ford only put a 6000lb limit for towing on that piece!
