Howdy: I just bought a '97 Ford F150 4X4. How can I tell if it has a 4.2Liter engine or a 4.6?
Thanks for any help.

I have never heard of a 4.2. I think there are a 4.6 and a 5.4.

According to my owners manual it has either a 4.2L (254 CID) or a 4.6 (278/281 CID).

How many spark plugs do you have? The 4.2 is a V6. The 4.6 is a V8.

4.2 V6 indeed. Be careful, those 97-98 4.2 were bad about hydro locking.

Be careful about driving those Blue oval trucks. They are notorious for sucking big donkey balls.

Thanks for your quick responses. I have a V8 so I guess that answers the question. This is a great forum-thing.
