PCV Issue?

Buddy has a 2006 5.3 Chevrolet Silverado with 100k miles. He runs 10W-30 Valvoline Maxlife. It's been drinking oil about 1qt. per 1200 miles. I know the earlier trucks had PCV issues but I think in 2004 they changed the design to prevent PCV issues. What would cause this to be happening?

Yes Carl, that PCV issue was taken care of with the updated design in 2004. He could always check the PCV to make sure but I know that some trucks after 2004 may have had a nicked valve stem. If the stem is nicked, then both heads would have to be replaced (at GM's direction). Other than that possibility, he may have a worn seal somewhere

Somewhat unusual for a 100K LS engine... but I have seen a few that were oil burners for whatever reason. A quart in 1200 miles is a lot for those engines.

In 2004 they went to a fixed orifice.

I've seen a few engines have a valve stem seal or two go bad and start sucking oil. Has he pulled his plugs to see if can spot any particular cylinders with excessive oil? There's always a compression test to see if it's rings or valves.
