I never suggested anything needed to be done. I was just wondering why it was done. Despite the rarity, it's not unheard of, and knowing that, I just wondered why a gate was placed in an area where the forces most favor something leaving the track. Centripetal force is not a mystery, that's all.

To the poster who hadn't head from his dad- hope he's OK, heard anything yet?

Yes thank you, he called a few mins ago he was in turn 4 about 6 flights of stairs up

A modder is never truly done, he is merely delayed!

I understand that. What I meant was that a major rethink wasn't necessary because of a rather freak accident... but I bet they rethink those access gates!

Just regear the cars to run about 180 top end and let em race. :tmc:

Move the grandstands back, lose the plates. I've been to several Daytona 500s and countless Dega races and those seats are worthless down there. You can't see across the infield to the Superstretch being that low. Move the stands back and elevate them, problem solved. This isn't the first time people have been injured at Daytona. Geoff Bodine damn near roasted the crowd when his fuel cell ruptured at a truck race a few years back.
