So its time that I am going to venture out and buy a truck for Precision Edge(My company)

Yeah we already have a dump truck but I am trying to save our personal trucks from wear and tear of the business.. My brother doesn't like the way I am anal about the care of my truck when we are using it for work... Plus I never take the cap off like I thought I would for work.

Here is what I am looking at.

2001 Chevy Silverado 2500hd LS Extended cab Long Bed 4X4.

-It has 135k

-4.10 rear end which would be great for towing

-V8 6.0

-Cloth Seating

-Sprayed in Bedliner (LineX)

-New Toyo AT's with less than a 1000 miiles on them...

I asked a bud of mine to check the vin for me and nothing more than the owner told me which is a good thing. Basically, The guy used to have a 10 employees and now has 1 and this is the reason why he is selling it. The truck is in good shape other than a couple bad things..

The Bad

- The truck sat for 2 years and there is a lot of surface rust on the frame as well as the rockers... :fume: I feel that I can remedy this myself with some grinding/sanding and bedliner application.

-The owner was driving and hit a lady when she cut him off in her car... Needs a new bumper and possibly lower valance which is like $70 my cost.

-Needs a new tailgate latch..

This is the original owner. He bought it from a dealer less than 5 miles away.

He is asking $7300. I thoroughly asked him about the Negatives of this truck and explained that due to the economy My company does not have the funds right now out of the slow season to cover this purchase. So with that in mind I will be funding the truck until I can get paid back. I told the guys that all I have right now is $5000 cash. I also explained that I know that he is asking a little more but how close could he meet my number...? He kindly explained not as close as you would like.

At this point I asked him what in his mind was a reasonable offer for this truck. He was like $6800. I was not going to make him a offer until I have talked with him a couple times. At the same time I did not want to test drive the truck if he was solid on his asking price.

Now I want to test drive it but I am waiting for my brother to talk to him again and try to get a lower number out of him.

Sorry I have no pictures for right now but I am sure that I will get some tomorrow.

For now my concerns are about the fact that it sat for 2 years and what I could expect with this truck due to that occurrence and the price.

Ideally I think it would be a great deal if I were able to get him down to $5500...

Is an extended cab going to really be a benefit for you?

135K on the engine is really of no concern, the sitting for 2 years could have some emissions stuff that will not work properly, evap purge/vent valves. You know the usual GM problems.

Get it and change plugs, wires and fluids and you should be good to go.

Extended cab will be just fine. Especially since I will never have to sit back there...

These trucks have been proven to be the best for what I am looking for....

I don't know what it is but some people(I wont mention race) will take great care of their own vehiclrs but will run these trucks like its a crappy old farm truck. I can't even tell how many times they were told to check the oil. And at this place I worked at no one checked miles between oil changes. When I was put in charge I found 2-3 trucks that had not a oil change in over a year. Between oil changes they racked up 20-30k miles...

These trucks are still in use today with close to 200k miles on them and haven't been to the shop yet.

I would probably replace the brakes regardless if it sat for 2 years or not. Reason being I can get the parts at cost and that way I would have record of it being done.

You should have been closer to me!! A guy had a truck exactly like that (not sure of miles) for dirt cheap!

I can understand why it has sat, but I don't think seals really like to sit and then all of a sudden made to move. I highly doubt he'll come down from $6800 to your $5500. I just don't see him taking a $1300 hit.

If you were to get it, I'd go through all the normal stuff just so I had a record of it being done (plugs, wires, filters, brakes, coolant, oil, etc).

Yeah I am going to get under it the next time I look at it to see if those cooler lines that are along side the oil pan are leaking. Those pressure fittings are normally the first to leak oil.

Sell the Aurora and go buy a Duramax. Do it now.

I would like to and maybe next year but I will probably have to buy another dump truck this summer and I'd rather have a dmax in that than pay more now on a pickup.
