If I didn't have a tach I would definently put one in. I use mine to keep it in the power band when towing and it's pretty fun to watch the fWONker jump when you get on it, it makes up for the lack of speedo movement in trucks

I know of a way to fix that. I'm pretty sure Jarrod also knows of another way to fix it too.

i love a good tach. but....what real use would it be for you in an automatic??? looks i can understand, but the real hardcore gearhead is gonna see that and say:wtf?:..its an automatic:facepalm:...just my .2 worth, oh , and i dont wanna seem like the bad guy here so you do az you wish buddy, remeber...its your truck!:rocker:

Don't need one in a stick shift either :dunno:

You can feel and hear when you need to shift.

Tachs are eye candy no matter what you're driving.
i'mgoing to have to disagree with you on that one, with a stick you need to see a tach in order know what your optimal shift range is in order to get the maximum amount of power in the shift, not so in an auto, it does it itself.

I never look at my tach, and I'm always within the functional powerband... I'll most likely have to re-learn it when I get my shifting issues fixed
Have to short shift my truck or she won't go into gear when racing

I can tell my RPM by the sound of my truck, and the vibrations through the gas pedal and shifter.

IMO, that Ford Racing tach is freakin' awesome

Once you drive a vehicle for a while, the tach becomes something you really never look at. It's still a good thing to have when you are racing, towing using lower gears, etc. It's just another indicator.

Like most other gauges, you really don't NEED them but they are nice to have so that you can tell what the engine is up to.

OK, that looks nice but one thing you should do differently. Do not use a Sharpie or similar to black the numerals, they fade like crazy. Get yourself a good paint brush and some enamel model paint to do them. It will take a little extra time but the job will last another lifetime.

I have done it before Hunter, it looked awesome for several months and then the letters just started to fade away. :(

If you could find a nice paint pen that would work too, as opposed to a brush and paint. These would work great, I have used their products a lot. The paint lasts for years inside engines and out in the weather.
