I've used the beta and quite honestly, I liked it. It's leaps and bounds beyond Vista. We had it running on a not so powerful machine and saw no significant lack of performance. I'm talking a 2.8 P4 with 512.

XP is going to go away slowly but it is going to go away. $49 for an upgrade is a damn good price. There's no need to go to Premium for typical home use. Premium does come with auto-backup capabilities and "XP Mode" but there will be plenty of Windows 7 compatible software and plenty of backup solutions available.

Both take full advantage of the 64 bit architecture as well.

I just put Win7 on my Macbook Boot Camp partition, it's awesome! Much improved over Vista! I just found my replacement work computer :D

    Best quote ever from PCWorld...

The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows.

Win7 RC x64 is pretty solid. I normally beta test all of the latest MS OS's at home and work. Fairly impressed with Win7 so far. If you have a spare PC laying that meets the min requirements, I'd load it up and give it a try. But if you really want to use all of the cool Aero effects, you'd want something with a half-way descent video card.

I should probably buy that. I'm running the 32 bit RC on a 2.08 single core CPU & 1G Ram HP a600n, and it's fine..some things are a bit laggy but not bad at all.

I haven't made up my mind yet on getting a new PC or building one/having one built for the actual W7 release. My mobo is pretty much worthless for mods. Might shoot the crazy clown a PM.
