Will only start on carb cleaner but fuel pump still comes on

    2000 Volvo s70 v5 2.4 turbo Sweden model

    Gas gauge shows 1/4 tank of gas. Will start and run on carb cleaner but fuel pump still comes on when turning the key. Car has been sitting. PO abandoned this car and now im trying to get it running to drive. Car did run when PO last started it.

    How long has it been sitting? Is it a carb or fuel injection? The carb or fuel injectors could be gummed up. It could have some bad gas in it, or gummed up fuel line. :dunno:

    Sounds like the gas is bad, also what year? Maybe fuel filter is clogged.

    Ran one time last year. Fuel injector with turbo v5

    Edit: Fuel pump not might be coming on. What i hear sound like the air bags are airing up when turning the key. Sound like coming from the dash.

    new fuel pump didnt fix it

    Did you put fresh gas in it and clean the fuel injectors? The turbo maybe shot as well. :dunno:

    Had a diagnostics put on this and person who did it said it needed a computer. Person also sid these cars junk and are nothing but problems. I dk of what he said is true or he made up something so he didnt have to work on it. How can the computer be bad if it starts on carb cleaner spray?

    The computer controls everything...the amount of air, amount of fuel, etc, etc. It'll start when you force carb cleaner or starting fluid, but will die out because it is used up and not getting anymore fuel. The guy maybe on to something. :dunno:
