Ok, well... ive been lazy and havent put a new wheel speed sensor yet on my truck.. well since the hub is bad on the left front.. while i put a new one on.. i might as well put the new sensor in it. I got this one from work.. its good.. but is off a tahoe i believe and is not long enough for my truck. So.. here is a quick write up on how to repair or lengthen your wheel speed sensor harness.

What you will need.

16 or 18 gauge wire, wire cutters/strippers/crimper, heat shrink, razor blade or knife, electrical tape, heat source for shrinking the heat shrink, butt connectors or a solder gun and the harness.

First, you need to go and measure how much length you need to add to the harness.. by holding it up to the WSS already on your truck, and just take a mental note on how much to add. In my case i have to add a lil bit over 6 inches.

After you know the length.. go ahead and cut the harness. I like to cut down by the sensor itself.. just dont cut too close to the sensor.. in case you mess up.. you have room for error.

Next step.. after you have cut the harness, go ahead and strip about an inch of the protective sleeve off from around the wires, you can use a knife or a razor blade, just be careful not to cut into the wires.

Ok, now you have 2 wires in front of you, a brown wire and a black wire. Go ahead and with your strippers, strip the ends of the wires. they should look about like this.

Alright... next step is to go and cut the proper length of wire you need to add to the harness. Just measure with a tape measurer, or eye ball it like it did.

Ok next step is too slide some heat shrink around the wires.. so after you connect them you can slide it into place and heat it up. So take the connectors you have, and crimp them to one side of the harness. Then, take the wires you cut, and add them to the other side of the butt connectors, and crimp them. Make sure you tug on the wires after youve crimped them to make sure they are nice and tight AND MAKE SURE THE BROWN GOES TO BROWN, BLACK GOES TO BLACK, . Go ahead, and do this to the other side of the harness as well. After making all the connections tight, slide the heat shrink over the connections and heat it up!!

After this, i just added a little tape around the ends of the heat shrink... and youre done!!

good job, but why didnt you just use the heat shrink to cover the whole open area of the extension?

couldnt get the shrink totally over the connectors.. got it most of the way.. but i wanted to make sure nuttin gets in there
Gotcha.

A good way around this is to stagger your splices.

thought about that after i did it.. hahaha. o well. next time.
Isn't that always after you make the splice.

Then you think....Should I cut it or....nah fook it...
