I have never had leaf springs, so I have a stupid question: Why the gap?


What gap? The picture I posted it isn't tightened down, the gaps will close once the U-bolts are on and tightened down.

You can see in alljackedup's picture that all the leafs are touching except the very bottom one, that is called an overload spring... kind of the bump stop of leaf springs.

I too have a question about my second picture though, I am no suspension expert by any means but if the axle is above the leafs wouldn't an AAL lower the truck?

Oh, got ya. Just never had to do that. My truck had a silly bar thingy that I don't have to mess with..

I <3 the gas n go type vehicles, unfortunately I have this crazy urge to mess with everything I own.

It's called a coilover, a coil spring over the shock. That's what most vehicles have nowdays, most trucks only have them in the front with the previously pictured leaf springs in the back.
