The oil you buy might not be that 5w-30 you expect it to be.

to bad the report doesn`t list one single product they tested (manufacture`rs name, and product model.) its good they are doing these tests, but there is probly thousands of gallons of oils not doing the job that they found, and the customer should know about it. i`d be pissed to find the factory oil i`m using in a new car was not to par and could put my warranty into question.

You betcha
Found this in Lubes-n-Greases magazine. Thought it was interesting and good that someone is checking up on engine motor oils to make sure what is claimed on the bottle is actually what is inside the bottle.

You can read the report here.

They found some oils didn't match the viscosity that was stated on the bottles label and some didn't have the proper additive treat rate.

You would think that all the money the oil companies are making they wouldn't have this kind of issues.

Quality control is sleeping on the job.

That's why my test machine at work is connected to a cable modem and not the corporate network. Even though this site isn't blocked by our corporate firewall (yet) I don't want to leave the evidence on my workstation. :uhoh:

This is just another reason why I change my own oil. I might not be getting the 5w30 it states on the bottle, but at least it looks clean coming out of the bottle. :dunno:
