Gen IV = witchcraft.
Gen IV is the shit! I was glad to have a GenIV platform. I could throw an Ly6 into my truck about as easy as I could a Lq4 into a GMT-800 but then there is the trans issue. I could build up a 4l60E but I would always worry about it. Swapping a 6spd is harder than it should be so who the F knows.

Gen IV engines are made from witchcraft and should be avoided unless you are building on an existing gen IV platform. :D

That what I was saying. It was a joke because there is so much new crap packed into the variety of Gen 4 engines... AFM, VVT, different spots for stuff, different ECM/TCM combos etc.

I miss how simple the Gen 3 platform is...especially my old LM7 with on-engine fuel pressure regulator, drive by cable, a single PCM controller etc.

Is there AFM in the LQ4 or anything fancy-schmancy like that?

No, that's why it's bawlz. In the gen 4 5.3 engines (AFM trucks) your cam options are extremely limited unless you install LS7 lifters which remove the AFM abilities. That allows you some better cam options.

Thanks!

Is there like a "6.0L Bible" somewhere that explains a lot of the performance mods and anything else?

:werd: I thought AFM would be a good thing. That was before the mod bug hit me and now I realize how much of a pain getting rid or it will be.

With which engine? You don't want to deal with the AFM?
It would be so much easier to just take an Lq4 throw some forged slugs and rods in it and a blower cam, maggie it and have a solid 11 second ride. It's an easy combo and I like the fact that the GMT-800 trucks are a lot lighter. I would also find one without any rust. :fume:
Question: Why the LQ4 (which I think is a 6.0)?

And other than swap-ability, why go with a GMT800 and not a 400 for weight purposes?

Great, just what we need, another lowered 4x4 on here. :jester:

Are there differences in the 6.0's?
The LQ4 is the same engine Dan has in his truck They were in the 2000-2007 classic 2500 trucks only about a couple million of them made. Very easy to find and very good bang for the buck buy. GMT-800 because I want a GenIII motor and platform. Any GMT-400 is still GenI and GenII smallblock territory. Yeah, I know. That's why I said swap-ability would be a bigger issue.

Differences how? There is a LQ9 which is essentially the same motor but had stronger rods a couple years and had different tune. It made more power than the LQ4.
I did a quick search on the differences and someone was saying that the pistons were different. :dunno:

I think Justin has L92 heads on his SSS, but what's the advantage of them?

The L92 heads are some of the best flowing heads GM has ever produced. But you need at least a 4inch bore.

Meaning 6.0 or bigger basically.
