River boat? Evidently your definition of a river boat is different than mine. That boat is a bit small for the rivers here (St Croix and Mississippi). If you want to go fast on these rivers, you need a minimum 28' Baja or Fountain (or similar). Or risk your life, especially on the St Croix.

The Wapiti river which the boat races are held on around here... Isn't that big

However... All that boat needs is a rope tower for skiing and tubing!

yeah i`m sure our definitions are a bit different, but only cause our rivers are much smaller. around here we have small narrow rocky mountain fed streams that require low pitch bottom boats and water jet propulsion, typically we running rivers that may only be 6 inches deep in places, lots of times you "tap" bottom, my bros boat has a 3/8" Qt-100 steel bottom and teflon coating to survive the occasional skim over rock beds.

here is some old racing footage. [YT]rEdTzBXKAf4[/YT]

Most of our rivers aren't choppy and full of breakers. We have lots of smooth water around here unless it's extremely windy. When I saw river boat, I thought of this:

This is my definition of a "fast" riverboat:

And this is my definition of a slow riverboat:
