I am wanting (NEEDING!!!!) to get a dvd player for the Tahoe to keep the munchkin entertained on our long trips to see family. Was looking at some of the headrest ones, and some of the flip down ones.

What do yall recommend? It needs to be decent quality, decent price. I don't want a cheapo one that will break in 6 months.

GO!

Depends.
How old are the kiddos? Do you want the DVD player in the rear where they can change DVDs themselves? Or would you rather a dash or center console mounted DVD player with a flipdown screen from the ceiling? Or headrest monitors?
I have a flip down monitor with a DVD player mounted in the center console (where the factory cassette player was). We also have a cheap set of headrest monitors with DVD players built in that just Velcro onto the headrests and plug into the cigarette lighter. We transfer it back and forth from the Altima to the Suburban when needed. It only gets used for road trips, and they are stored in the closet the rest of the time. The reason we like those is because each kid can watch what they want instead of arguing over which movie to watch. Also, make sure whatever you choose has headphonejacks or comes with wireless headphones. You will go insane if they ddon't have headphones on.

Only one kid right now :uhoh: , and shes a very active 1 1/2 year old. She does not like sitting in her car seat for longer than 10 minutes :suicide: , and its a 5 hr drive to my parents, 10 to the inlaws...she will sit still for anything with animals though...

How's the quality on yours Scott? Looks like it might fit the bill...

Edit: I saw that it won't play/use external HD's or SD cards...being able to play from those is probably gonna have to be a must, so we dont have to bring every dvd we own with us to keep our sanity...

What about a tablet with a case that hangs off the headrest?

I've thought about that. We have an iPad (the OG). Unfortunately, with the update to itunes, I can no longer put movies on it. I've thought about getting an android tablet of some kind, but haven't yet. I figure a dvd player will be a bit cheaper than a tablet of decent value...

My kids also have tablets. We got em each a 8 inch android tablet from wally world for about $100. Pretty good tablet for the money IMO. They took those non our most recent road trip which was just last week to go visit my mom in the hospital. It's a 5 hour drive each way. Between the tablets and DVD player , they were plenty occupied.

The one thing with the androids is that the volume is very low on max setting. I have a nexus 7 and I have an iPad 3 for movies.
