Recall Alert: 2010 Toyota Tacoma with 4WD for Potentially Faulty Drive Shaft Yokes
February, 2010
By Benson Kong
Toyota’s most recent recall involves the 2010 Tacoma with four-wheel drive. The recall affects around 8000 Tacomas built from mid-December to early February and centers on potentially faulty front drive shaft yokes. According to drive shaft supplier Dana, the yokes may develop cracks over time and cause the shaft to separate from the universal joint, presenting a serious safety risk. Owners will begin to receive notices in mid-March to visit dealers for a replacement yoke.
In addition to the Tacoma, a number of Ford and Nissan four-wheel-drive vehicles were also supplied with Dana drive shafts. Both manufacturers have reported that the issue does not prompt a recall.
