My chevy silverado 1500 has 400000 miles on it so i was thinking it would be a great motor to rebuild How many hours do you think it would take to rebuild a 92 350 5.7 tbi just around about oh and what's your opinion on flipping the cap on air filter

Flipping the cap does nothing.

At all.

Overhaul time without machining, depending on your skill level, about 25-30 man hours

I have to agree with @PenguinLTZ, flipping the cap does nothing more than make more noise. Won't hurt anything but also won't help anything. If you like to hear it when you stomp the skinny pedal, then flip it.

When building your engine remember it's NOT a race. Take your time, be observant and refer to a good manual for the proper specs. I have one similar to this for small blocks that I've been referring to for years. How to Rebuild Small Block Chevy by David Vizard | 9781557880291 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble

Find one for your version and spend the $20 on it and toss it in your toolbox when you're done.

I have had those "How to Rebuild..." since I was a teenager. Those are decent manuals!

I assume you mean the spider gears.

Why??

Are you not going to daily drive it?

If you are, don't do that, get a clutch type limited slip differential
