As you guys know i have been gathering parts to do my brake up grade on my 64 gmc. I have all the parts for the front disc brake up grade and have decided to gowith the 5 lug bolt pattern so i can buy all my parts in the future over the counter using factory parts instead of haveing to order them from a aftermarket place. Now i need a little help IDingthe 12 bolt truck rearend i got from a friend. He said it was out of a 2wd suburban but was not sure of the year. So here are the numbers i found on the rearend and ring gear.

Axle tube numbers KAC W023 2.

These are on the center housing A166, 3896839 N, and GM69.

These are on the ring gear 381779, 14:43, GM 01762.
I know the 14:43 is the ratio which is a 3.07.

I'd like to know the year if posable. Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks jim but those were pretty much what i found also. I was just hoping to get the exact year. But i was able to take my old brake shoes and wheel cylinder up to work and match them to a 85 chevy with the bigger brakes. So all is good. Was able to rebuild the brakes today and clean up the rearend.and get it painted black and ready to go onder them 64. Now just waiting on getting the bushing put in the upper and lower control arm for the front. Then its time to tear in to the ol girl and make her stop a lot easyer and safer.

I am a little bumbed about goin to 5 lug cause ill be losing my 6 lug western turbine wheels. But a buddy of mine thinks he has a set of 5 lug ansen aluminun wheels. If not the same friend i got the rearend from has the good ol chevy ralleys from an 80s c10. I may just save my money for awhile and get a set of torq thrust wheels or i also like these other one made by rocket racing wheels called rocket injectors.

80s Silverado Rally wheels look really good on those trucks too... and there are a lot of 5 lug applications with that bolt pattern...

Yeah those are the ones I'm talking about. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Either way like you said there is a lot of wheels i can go with.

Hey Mark, So I only missed your thread by a couple months over a year, but.... You're correct, it's a 3.07 Ratio and is a 12 bolt. The KAC code means that axle came from a C10 1974-77 & 1979 3.07 non-locking. So the code says it's an open differential, and could have been from a 74, 75,76, 77 or 79 truck. Strange not a 78.

But, going further, the ring gear #'s, 381779 is the part #, 14:43 is the # of Pinion teeth and Ring Teeth, GM 01762 is manufactured for GM on the 01 first month of 1976 on 2nd shift. So there you go, it's a rear end from a 1976 C10 Pick Up with 3.07's and is a non locker. Whut else you need ta know???

I found this thread looking for your 64 JeemC build thread.
