Whenever I am starting my truck it is slow to turn over. It will click several times and then finally crank. Because the clock kept reseting, I figured it was the battery, but after testing it and charging it, I beginning to think it might be the starter. But why would the clock reset each time i crank it up if it was the starter? All the battery connections are tight and corrosion free, and the alt. tested good. Could the clock be reseting cause the starter is pulling all the power? :wtf?:

Thanks
Wess

I'd bet on a loose ground somewhere.

Yes. It's pulling current from wherever it can.

Have your stater checked out, and undo, clean and re tighten your major ground points.

How old is your battery?

All of the above plus:

  • Test your cables and connections with a meter. Don't just assume that because they look good, are clean and tight, that they actually are good.
  • How's your timing? Advanced timing can make for hard starting.
  • Do a load test on the battery (many parts places will do this for free)
  • Look for missing grounds. A lot of times the grounding braid will rot away, leaving just two terminals bolted in place, and those are easy to overlook if you don't know a ground strap is supposed to be there.

Check the power wire at the starter also. Makes sure its tight and corrosion free.
