My son flew in yesterday, and we ended up staying all night in the Pet ER. About 10:30 last night the Great Dane went down hard, and started heaving and dumping bile out his mouth. I knew what it was, instantly. He experienced stomach torsion, common in these big dudes. We were waiting for his first birthday to get his stomach tacked (1 month away)

Rushed him in, and sure enough, that is what it was after the Xray. It had untwisted after they got him in, and gave me a choice of $5K emergency surgery, or a lavage to get everything out of his stomach and see how he did. They emptied him, and sent us home. I really want our vet to do any surgery. They know him, and he loves them.

He is on doggy Xanax for now, and we hope to get him in tomorrow for surgery. He is acting like nothing happened.

This is a killer of big dogs :( We are pretty worried.

Thanks, we appreciate it. We have to wait for Tues morn at our vet, or pay the 5 grand to get to get the surgery done at the ER.

We are keeping him calm, and hope to make it until Tuesday. I love him, but 5 grand is 5 grand.

Also, we really want our vet to do it. The vet techs in there will take good care of him for his overnight stay. They just love him.

Ok. Good. Eating and drinking right now?

I will sometimes put them on gasEx to help minimize gas production.

Yep, Gas X every 6 hours, and small amounts of water soaked kibble, and water.
