Why am I up at almost 6:00 am? Well, I should have realized the night wasn't going to go well from the start.
My buddy's friend shows up at his house, in his '93 F150 with the straight 6. It has a stack on it. It runs SUPER rich, so he was trying to light the unburnt fuel on fire out of the stack. Well, then he FUCKING DROPS THE FLASHLIGHT IN THE STACK!
Then he tried to race a Civic with a fart can around the neighborhood, and some guy yelled at all of us.
Then it was time for some burnouts. Well, the truck wasn't running right, and he couldn't break 'em loose. Finally he just pulls into a leaf pile, dumps the clutch, and they start spinning. Once he made it out of the pile and hooked, CRUNCH. Bye bye rear.
So we push the truck up the one kid's driveway, and he informs us that 4wd (at this point, FWD) doesn't work since he snapped the drivers side axle u-joint. So we spent the next 2-3 hours trying to weld shit to hold that axleshaft in place so he can drive home in left-front-wheel-drive. No dice, everything's breaking. Finally I just offer to tow him home.
Thing is, I've only towed an empty flat bed trailer around the block once.
Drove 45 minutes to his work an picked up a trailer, which ended up weighing a LOT more than I thought it did (about 3-4k empty). Drove BACK to the truck, and spent another half hour getting it on the trailer with a come-a-long. FINALLY got all loaded up.
At this point it's about 3:30am.
Truck + trailer weighed in at around 8k. No surge brakes on the trailer, and I don't have a controller.
Dropped one kid off at his house, and drove VERY carefully. The truck was DEFINITELY working hard, and the brakes were trying to jump in the truck and kick me in the balls.
Made it there incident free (luckily there was nobody else on the roads). The kid grabbed a bobcat and dragged the truck off the trailer, I pulled it around to the back of the shop, and backed it in to where it's supposed to go on the first shot. I was actually surprised at how easy it was to back up.
Got $20 for gas, drove my ass home, and wrote this. I'm going to go pass the **** out for bunches of hours.
And I know how unsafe towing that thing was, but the tongue weight was within my limit, I was being ridiculously cautious, and there was absolutely nobody else on the roads. I would have never tried that at any other time of day.
'Night.

8K doesn't seem too unreasonable. What's your truck rated at anyways? Just think, not too much longer you'll have that 6.0 and be able to tow like a champ.
