My First Oil Thread EVER!

OK, so many of you already know I am a conventional oil guy. I have always used Valvoline 5W30 conventional and change it religiously every 3K miles.

Well, yesterday I stopped at WallyWorld to pick up some oil. Valvoline 5W30 Conv was $3.42/qt, no cases or jugs, just individual qts. 6 of these would have cost me $20.52. I then noticed a 5qt jug of Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic was $20and a reg qt was $5.87, so 6 qts = $25.87. So, for about $5 extra, I decided to give the synthetic a try.

I doubt I will run it more than 4-5K miles though, I am still "old school" when it comes to oil and prefer CLEAN oil in my engine ALL the time. I am hoping it will help my lifter noise on extreme cold starts though. Waste of money? maybe, but at $25/oil change and only 2-3 oil changes/year, big f'ing deal!

Can't hurt and for the extra $5 worth a try to see if it helps the lifter noise.

i will only run synthetic in my daily. now the race truck just gets straight race oil. gets changed regularly.. once it starts smelling like race gas i change it.

It may benefit you to change it again at 3,000 again even though it is synthetic in case it broke up some deposits.

It may benefit you to change it again at 3,000 again even though it is synthetic in case it broke up some deposits.

Deposits? I doubt it, remember, I change my oil every 3K miles.

I'm anxious to hear about your lifter noise.

Don't hold your breath, it will be a couple of months before we get cold enough weather for it to occur. It typically needs to be below zero, and sit outside for several hours. Which means the daytime temps need to be that cold since it sits in the garage at night.
