I would maybe have paid $0 for W8.

W10 is supposed to be decent. We'll see; I still like W7 a lot.

My brother has been using the Beta preview version for a while and loves it over 8.

I still love 7 myself and have still been using this 2005 built computer that came with Vista that I got from Jeff.

I'm kinda in the mood for a new laptop since I am on my second battery. The battery I have now would be great for target practice.

W7 for me, only way for me to move to W8 or W10 would be if it cost me less than $50. So looks like I'll be using W7 for a little while longer.

I think what he is saying is that he'd rather pay $50 for 7(an OS that works great) than pay $0 for 10(If it were a dung heap). I mean you gotta think, are they trying to rebuild clientele because 8 blows, keep clientele by offering a better than sucky free os, or is there a possibility that 10 could be a descent OS and they are offering it free because 8 was soooo bad?

    :dunno:

Why give it away? To get the most people possible to upgrade as quickly as possible. The faster they get more people to upgrade, the less pressure they will have to extend support for W7 and W8.x. That also gets more people on the newer platform with more options for software upgrades, getting them hooked into new services, etc..

Some of the things I have read have claimed Windows 10 will be updated "for free" for as long as the hardware it is installed on works. :dunno:

It's looking more and more like the time to buy a new laptop. I don't think I can get 10 on this old laptop because the original OS was Vista.
