Since I am shopping for a lift and tires, I figure it would be a good time to start doing a little bit of motor work too.

Here is a little rundown:

2003 Silverado 2500HD ext cab longbed 4x4
gas 6.0L 4L80E 4.10 gears
will be on a 6" lift, 35" tires

The truck will still be used for towing, but will see some off-roading as well (mud, water), so torque is key for both applications.

I am very familiar with the LS engines (have done MANY swaps in trucks, throwing out SB1's and putting in LSx's  ) so this isnt an issue. I just dont know what cam to go with for my application, as everything else I have done was for cars and going fast lol.

What do you guys recommend? Depending on the cost, I may go with some longtubes too

I would definitely throw some longtubes on there to get the full potential of the cam. I would get a custom cam spec'd out for your specifice application by a guy named Pat G. Dan (DV200NJ) got one spec'd by him and is almost in the 12's in his extended cab, giant pickle. Jarrod (Bigredmariner) is also going to get one spec'd by him for his supercharged application. The guy knows his stuff. It only costs 25 bucks.

Thanks CJ, I will keep that in mind. I will probably check with a couple other LS guru's I know too, just to see what they say

You can go with a regular off the shelf cam like most guys do, it will work well and provide the extra torque you are looking for but why not get one specifically for your setup.

You can gather info from other guys you know with experience on these LS engines or you can get Pat G to spec one. In my case I don't have the knowledge base to pick one for an LS, I am confident enough for the old SBC but not for these LS motors. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Will do.

Im gonna call my friend who builds race engines (ls based) for a few teams around here, I figure since he owns a machine shop and builds them, it wouldnt hurt to at least talk to him about it, I will keep everyone posted
