I have talked for years about my old Jeep, and I have avoided going down that dark hole again for nearly 20 years...until now. I am on the hunt for a good deal on a TJ, or a decent YJ. I don't even know what the cool off road stuff is, anymore. Any productive input is appreciated. I am going to build a worthy trail Jeep, hopefully!

If i were to go back down the TJ hole again, I'd just get a Rubicon and leave it near stock, they're already stupidly capable. If you're going to get something else and build it up, make sure you get one with the Dana 44 in the rear. This is probably given, but you want the 4.0L. Also, make sure the water pump is in good shape, that's a common issue on the 4.0L.

I get it, and agree. This one will be built over time with a friend of mine. The YJ I am looking at today has a Ford 8.8 in the rear, with a Detroit, and ARB up front. Decent place to start

Yeah, I was looking at Jeep as well. The hunt for IH Scout is pretty much dead because most are rust buckets that need way to much work and the ones that are in good shape are priced way out of my pocketbook.

I was looking at something different like getting a 2000 Cherokee Sport. Seems to be a good platform and has room for the family and comes with the 4.0.

My uncle got an almost stock Rubicon and it is very tough on the trail. Good luck on the hunt

There are TONS of 4.0 Cherokees for sale, cheap!

Well, I am now officially a Jeep owner, once again. I picked up the 1994 Sahara YJ. Man, what I would have done to have had fuel injection back in the 90s when I was deep into this! LOL

It is a pile, but the foundation to start my build is solid. It has:
-8.8 Ford rear, 4.56 gears detroit locker
-E locker up front, 4.56 gears (duh)
-Slip yoke eliminator, new drive shafts
-Rear disc brakes
-Old Man Emu Spring Over Axle suspension, 4.5 lift total (sagging now) with extended shocks and brake lines
-ARB air compressor
-On board Welder

I am only ordering new bumpers, winch, fenders, rock bars and tire carrier to start. I am not going to make the giant list yet, until I wring it out in the woods, and break something. Then the surgery will begin.
