So I am going to be buying an iMac for Xmas and I will be mainly using it for my photography. I do not understand which I need more on the desktop to hold my photos. The ram or the capacity? And if the GB is higher than the TB. Anyone know this stuff and is a computer techie that could help me out. I am going to buy my desktop from B&H Photo because they've got better deals than the refurbished ones on Apple. Thanks!
Tobias (daddy) speaks iMac. BUT the hard drive capacity is what you seek for storage. TB(terabyte) is larger than GB(gigabyte) 1000 GB = 1 TB RAM is the memory used for the process functions
Scott is right. TB > GB. More TB's of hard drive capacity is better than less. More GB's of RAM is better than less. i5 vs. i7? Unless it's a screaming deal on an i7, the i5 will do you fine for photo editing. If you're planning to do video, maybe opt for the i7. IF you plan to do any video editing or playing video games, make sure it has what they call a "discreet video graphics card." That just means it has a dedicated card & processor(s) just for graphics. Depending on which model (generation) of iMac you're looking at, some things may be more upgradeable than others. The cool thing is, if it's still under warranty, you can still take it to an Apple Store, regardless of where you bought it. You might also want to look into getting a couple of years of Apple Care. When I bought my MacBook Pro, Fry's had a better deal than the Apple Store and the Apple Store wouldn't price match (even though Fry's is just across town). So, Fry's got my money. Amazon had a better deal on Apple Care. So, I spent my money with Amazon. I don't know if you're familiar with Macs or not. If not, there is a bit of an adjustment period when switching from Windows, but nothing that you can't solve by hitting Google to find answers. I do not for a second regret not buying another damn Windows machine.

Suprisingly, I was told by the Apple dealer to stay away from the fusion drive because it would slow down my computer. He told me and my other Mac user friends told me that the fusion would not be the best way to go.
A fusion drive will be slower than an SSD, but not slower than a standard hard disk. If he thinks that, he doesn't know what he's talking about. The "best" way to go would be to have an SSD for the OS and programs and a standard HD for your data, but you can't fit two drives into that model of iMac (I looked it up earlier). You could get one with an SSD inside (so things load faster) and attach a standard hard disk (for your pictures, etc) via an expansion port, though.
