Idling issues

[Cowboy Cadillac]

The gfs truck started idling wonky yesterday, its idling up over 1000rpm and then jumps up and down at will about 300 rpm. I ran a code reader and it says im running lean, when i know its running rich( black smoke) but says nothing about idle. (FYI its a 98 dodge dakota 5.2L) Any ideas?

Does it do this when the engine is cold or warm?

Intake pan gaskey is probably blown. Remove ail filter housing and look into the intake, if you see oil, then the gasket is blown. Common problem on Rams and Dakotas with the V-8s.

That would be my first item to check.
53.80 is the list price at the dealer for the intake set

Good to know. I was thinking of a vacuum leak of some kind. If not that the TPS or IAC.

Its throwing 10 codes.....p0300,302,306,307, & 308 which are misfires.... p505 idle malfunction, p420 catalyst below threshold (bank 1) p171 Fuel trim lean(bank 1), p1682 Charging too low(fixed),the one that really throws me is P545...i can find out what it is. I changed my IAC that helped with the idle, it still sticks a bit though, after i cleaned the whole throttle body.
There is oily residue in intake so your prob right about gasket Felix. Thanks Ill get to that this weekend.

Have you noticed any exhaust leaks before the cats/ O2s?
*edit* just something to inspect. The intake gasket would need to be fixed first.
