Well us 
Guys have to deal with alignment holes behind all our badges so we have to get creative. I got this idea from guys from other forums, I am not the pioneer of this by a long shot!

Here is the write-up:
Tools Needed:
-Heat Gun
-High Test Fishing Line
-Goo Gone or 3M Adhesive Remover
-Sandpaper (400, 600, or 800)
-Krylon Fusion Paint For Plastic
-Clear Coat
-Inlays (Patriot Decals)
Here is what I started out with:
Get your first two tools ready (Heat Gun, and Fishing Line)
Then Start to heat around the badge **(Less heat is better don't wanna burn the plastic badge or the paint.) I started on the lowest setting and worked my way around the edges of the badge then a quick pass through the center.
Start to work the fishing line behind the badge with a gentle sawing motion towards the badge. Like this:
Slowly pull the badge off of the tailgate and this is what is left:
This was left on the tailgate
Then it is the hardest part, the adhesive is a B*tch to get off! I used 3M Adhesive Remover.
Work it off with the heat, goo gone, adhesive remover and your fingernails be careful not to harm the paint behind it.
This is what it looks like when all said and done:
Now to get to the prep and painting. Started with 600 grit and got some of the chrome scuffed up the letters too
Here is the paint I used too, Krylon Fusion Satin Black for Plastic:
First coat was a light dusting:
Second Coat was heavier
3 Coats Later & 3 Heavy layers of Clear
Now for the inlays:
All you have to do is lay them down like a sticker just take your time and be patient
I seperated them to do them individually
The adhesive remover had a reaction with my taillight
I gotta clean that up 
If you have any questions let me know, I prefer to take the badges off I hate taping off the whole area you're working on for just a small badge.
