I got bored and built myself a truck on Chevy's website. It was a 2wd regular box 5.3L single cab LT with very few options, the damn thing was $27K!

I was thinking of maybe getting a truck, but to hell with $27K for a basic truck.

Since when were they so damn expensive?

They have been high for the last 5 - 6 years. Stickers really began to climb rapidly back about 2005. My red CrewCab had a sticker north of 30K and it was 2WD!

I remember looking at GMCs with a coworker back a number of years and a V8 single cab similar to what I priced out was about $19K. I thought it was a decent bargain at the time.

You can still buy a V8 single cab for 20-22 with a pretty decent level of equipment. They discount the crap out of them.

I have found that the website is always over priced cause I think that its based on a vehicle that you would have ordered...
When the 07 NBS came out a co-worker of mine ordered he actually paid more than invoice for his when you could buy the same truck with more features for a few grand less...

When your initial plan is to keep the vehicle over trading it in year to year its worth looking for a left over!

That's not too bad of a deal then. I'm not sold that I need a truck, but I really do like the looks of the new GMC / Chevy trucks. Not like I could really afford one at the moment anyways.
