How do I get my winch to work without the control box?

The winch on my trailer stopped working. I narrowed the problem, down to the control box. I am assuming it is a relay in there that has gone bad. I saw someone with a large three way switch on their trailer winch. In, out, and off that is all. It was like a large toggle switch. Does anyone know how that works? Where do I get a switch like that? It had the large gauge wires going to it. Any input?

You have given us literally no other info about which unit you have, but I would simply test the relays. I have had a few Warn winches, and the diagrams etc are avalilabke online. It is a simple schematic. So you already tested the power to the motor. In my Jeep club days I saw more than one motor failure

It is a Badlands winch. I did verify the motor works. I am trying to eliminate the relays.

The two big power wires going to the winch motor can be hooked directly to the battery.

All winches can be wired direct.

Essentially, that is what I am trying to do. I just want a big switch for engaging it.

Just need a big enough three way switch... You're going to want crap tonnes of overkill. 200+ amps.

That is what I was thinking as well. But I have found locating such a switch is far more difficult than I thought it would be. At least around town that is.
