So, my 2002 Chevy Silvy has decided to start honking whenever I turn. It usually happens when I make right hand turns, but occasionally will happen on left turns if I hit a bump. It doesn't do it all the time. The first time I thought it was some lady driving by, but it did it again last week and then again today.

I haven't had time to tear anything apart, but I'm guessing there is a loose/bare/crimped wire somewhere in the steering column. Anyone ever heard of this happening/know what might be the cause/how to fix it?

It's in the horn pad contacts somewhere. It's flexing when you turn the wheel. It used to be common before airbags.

If it is that, is it an easy fix, or will I even be able to do it? If not, I'm just going to wire up a button to use.

Have you checked to make sure you don't have a goose loose in the cab somewhere?

I would remove the airbag and check the metal button contacts underneath it.

I could just leave the airbag out while I'm at it...safer that way.

Is it even something I could do or will I somehow set it off in my face? I honestly have no clue.

Just run it into a house or something so you can get the airbag out more easily.
