Fuel Pump Trick

I hear lots of stories about the dead fuel pumps in GM trucks and SUVs. A little trick I picked up from my friend's grandpa(he's a retired mechanic) for anyone who's pump craps out on them. If you are stranded and have a friend with you try having him tap the bottom of the gas tank while you turn the key. He said that sometimes the jarring will give the pump one last breath of air. Just don't shut the truck off cause then you're screwed.
He said it helped him once he got it going and drove it right to a shop.

I've never been lucky enough to have one fail but that sounds like something worth trying.

i have done that before(not to my truck), if the pump goes let the truck sit for about half an hour, then uses a 2x4 to tap the bottom of the tank, get in and drive it straight to a mehcanic!!! Works most times!! its a good trick!!!

I tried that with my 96 and it didnt work but a similar trick worked with the starter in my 99 when it went out!

yeah.. i carry a hammer in my truck.. for that reason. lmao. thats how u do it at the dealer.... oorrrrrrr have some one sit on the engine and spray starter fluid down the intake and drive it in.

That sucks that it went out twice! He said it wouldn't always work, but I figure anything is wroth a try if I'm stranded.

If it goes out again Im going with a Moroso electric pump in the frame rail.

Check the wiring harness on the pump when you replaced it?

When it starts going it'll pull more current and sometimes fubar the wires... At least on an S-Series
