I agree. If they were cost effective, had a range of 400+ miles, and would recharge on a normal 240v outlet in <8 hours, I would be all over an electric/hybrid car for a commuter.

Nothing says you love the environment like a trunk full of heavy metals.

Seriously though, I'd buy an electric car, too. My commute isn't very long.

That's precisely when I would not by an electric car.

I like not having to jack with my car every night to make sure it's ready for tomorrow morning. If I was worried about gas because of a long commute, then I might consider an electric car that could go far enough, fast enough.

I read something a while back about how the batteries in a Prius take more energy to produce than the car saves over it's expected lifetime. I guess if we really want to save energy, we all need to buy up old beaters and keep new cars from being produced! :dunno:

They'd all need HHO retrofits though.

Well yeah, that makes sense I guess. I just meant that I'm not driving 500 miles per day, so an electric car is probably more realistic to work for me, with the technology in the next few years.

I just think it would be cool to have an electric car. Never visiting a gas station would suit me just fine. I normally park in my garage and it would not be a biggie to plug it in.

I recently rode in a Nissan Leaf. It's a really odd feeling and very smooth. I only went about a mile, but it was cool. Once development produces better range and prices moderate, I'd be all for one.
