2017 will be Dale Jr's last season in NASCAR
Dale Earnhardt Jr to Retire in 2017 - Dale Jr Leaving NASCAR
It was announced by Hendrick Motorsports this morning that Earnhardt, the winner of 26 races and NASCAR's most popular driver 14 times, will retire after the 2017 season comes to a close.

I'm a bit surprised he even came back for this year. Hope he can finish out the season healthy

Cheers, Junior:tmc:

He isn't that old but I bed all that driving and everything wears down the body.

He has it all. Teams, shops, dealerships, interest in several tracks, ownership in another one... Zillions of dollars (and a history of concussions).

My hat is off to him for having the guts to say **** it.

Go enjoy life Dale.

He does a podcast and reading slightly between the lines, if he hadn't been under contract, he wouldn't have come back for this season. Basically, he came back because he didn't want to let down his sponsors, team, etc. by not fulfilling the commitments he had made. After coming back, though, he realized that his desire to retire never got back to zero. So, he called Rick and decided it was time to move on.

I agree with you. As much as he has, go enjoy life while you still can!

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
I'm honestly surprised he's "only" 42. I would have thought older.

Good for him though, I would have retired years ago if I were him

Half way between here and there.
He is making the right call. Life it to short and concussions are not joke. As one can see from all the issues from Pro football players.

He can enjoy his family and still have a ton of fun with all that he owns and is in involved in.
