I was a big fan, back in the day. I still remember that day. I missed the end of the 500 cuz I just turned it off thinking it was over. My dad told me later that he died on the last lap.... sad day for Nascar.

Good thread

I was a big #3 fan. I have quite a collection of memorabilia of his. I still remember that day when he crashed. It didn't seem like a hard impact but you could tell something was wrong when he wasn't coming out of the car. After the race was over, I was watching The Simpsons and I can still remember when they broke in and Mike Helton said, "We've lost Dale Earnhardt". Still almost brings a tear to my eye.

I got to watch him run only once live. The inaugural Texas race. I was thrilled!

Those who have never been to an actual NASCAR race event are missing out. They put on a fabulous show and the place is like a huge party. I highly recommend it!

I knew that the wreck wasn't good, I was watching with my wife. She's a good wife.
Anyway, when they didn't have any reports for a while we went down to the pond and fed the catfish. When we got back to the house Mike Helton was making that announcement. Sad day man. If they made it and it had a 3 on it, I bought it.
I was a fanatic, I went to see him race in 1979 at the now defunct Texas World Speedway. My dad dragged me along and I was hooked on the stuff, of course as a kid you didn't get to see many races but we would always catch the news. He is missed in our house. We hardly watch racing anymore now that Dale's gone.

It's hard for those who were not a big E fan to understand how much impact his death had on the sport. NASCAR has gone a completely different direction sine he left us.
